Recognised as one of the greatest classical
ballet companies in the world, New York’s American Ballet
Theatre bring their critically acclaimed Studio Company to Woking
Dance Festival for their debut UK appearance. Comprising twelve
classically trained dancers of outstanding ability, handpicked
from around the world, this vibrant and youthful company present
a stunning triple bill of breathtaking ballet.
The programme presents one of Czech choreographer Jiri Kylian’s
most celebrated works, Return to a Strange Land, a lyrical and poignantly
tender piece set to piano music by Leos Janacek. The company show
off their outstanding classical technique and spectacular stamina
in The Long & Winding Road by Australia’s leading choreographic
talent, Stanton Welch, performed to Peter Breiner's original orchestration
of Beatle songs in baroque style. For the finale, ABT company member,
Brian Reeder, presents his delightful new ballet, The Lost
Language of the Flight Attendant, a witty piece set to Mozart’s Piano
Concerto No 27, brimming with infectious humour and light-hearted
charm.
With an emphasis on pure entertainment, ABT’s Studio Company
present virtuoso performances and awesome technique with a wonderful
exuberance and energy.
