Britain’s flagship contemporary dance
company, returns to Woking Dance Festival with an impressive triple-bill.
Opening the programme will be the Rambert premiere of Hans van
Manen’s Visions Fugitives, a vivacious piece for six dancers
by Holland’s most prestigious choreographer, performed to
live music by Prokofiev.
Grinning In Your Face is the most recent work by Rambert’s
former Artistic Director, Christopher Bruce. Inspired by images of
the American mid-West, set to music by the virtuoso blues and folk
guitarist Martin Simpson, this evocative ballet is laced with emotional
power and lyrical beauty that are hallmarks of Bruce’s style.
Concluding the programme, PreSentient is the latest work created
for Rambert by the celebrated and distinctive British choreographer
Wayne McGregor. A daring piece, for twelve dancers, this physically
audacious spectacle stretches the dancers to the extremes of their
abilities, performed to Steve Reich’s kinetic Triple
Quartet,
played live by London Musici.
